Maria Gildea, representing County Donegal, ROI, was crowned the 2012 Spectacle Wearer of the Year. She entered the competition because she loved how her specs made her look. After being crowned, the 2012 champion said:
'I was thrilled and surprised to have won. All of the contestants looked amazing in their specs. The whole competition has been an amazing experience and I'm really excited to enjoy my prizes – a Caribbean holiday and modelling representation. Wow!'
The 2012 Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards was a star-studded glamorous event attended by a host of celebrities. The paparazzi and film crews were eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite specs-wearing stars.
Hosted by Gok Wan, the evening included a catwalk show, a charity raffle in aid of anti-bullying charity, Kidscape and the announcement of the Celebrity Specs Wearers of the Year, as well as the presentation of the Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2012.
